ABOUT
The name PLÖTTJES, derived from the Low German term (plattdeutsch),meaning "bisqueware" or "fragments.", perfectly captures the essence of our craft. It represents the initial stage after the first firing, showcasing its porous texture and absorbent qualities, ready to be further defined with glazes for the final transformation. Fragile yet firm, it’s the purest and our favorite form of ceramics; Low German as a nod to PLÖTTJES founder´s roots.
Having a formal background in architecture, our founder Philippa König has always yearned for hands-on work and creative exploration through various materials. After completing her studies, she discovered the captivating tactile experience and sensory connection that accompanies working with clay. This instant captivation marked the beginning of her ongoing journey with ceramics.
In the summer of 2021, she opened the doors of PLÖTTJES STUDIO, visioning a new co-space where aspiring ceramicists and those who want to become, can grow creatively. It's a place where inspiration flows freely and personal connections are made within an intimate atmosphere.
